Understanding our new confirmation curriculum

Looking for more information on Luther House of Study’s brand new confirmation curriculum? You’ve come to the right place!

We were excited to launch our confirmation curriculum this July, and we are so pleased with the positive responses we’ve already received from congregations who have begun implementing it.

We know there’s a need for high-quality, theologically sound confirmation materials, and we were fortunate to have the support of the 1521 Foundation in creating it. Their generosity allows us to offer these resources to you completely free of charge!

If you’ve seen some of our posts on social media about the curriculum but haven’t had the chance to fully explore it yet, now is the time. In this blog post, we’re going to break down the curriculum and its purpose, and explore how you can use it in your congregation, your classroom or at home.

Let’s dive in!

What is the purpose of a confirmation curriculum?

Our comprehensive confirmation curriculum was created to support educators, students and congregations in deepening their understanding of God’s promises.

Through confirmation, students explore fundamental Christian beliefs, understand the sacraments and are reminded of the promise God delivers through Baptism. It’s a time for people to go deeper in the catechism and in Scripture, building a firm foundation for their life of faith.

Many connect the idea of confirmation with a certain age or stage of faith, and while it is a common practice for middle school-age students, the truth is that this type of education is valuable and applicable to any age.

We anticipate many congregations using the curriculum for their traditional youth confirmation classes, but its design is accessible for a wide audience.

We pray that this curriculum will function as a tool, not only to deepen understanding of the Lutheran faith but also to bring congregations closer together.

How is the curriculum structured?

One of the best parts about this curriculum is how easy it is to personalize!

Whether you’re working with teenagers, young adults, new members or a Bible study group, the teacher guide is adaptable and user-friendly to facilitate a smooth learning experience. Additionally, the curriculum is flexible for use in a group setting or at home.

So, what exactly are you getting when you access this curriculum?

  • Interactive Digital Lessons
    • Engage with custom-made videos, quizzes, and drag-and-drop tasks that make learning interactive and enjoyable.
  • Flexible Learning Formats
    • Choose between classic modules for streamlined learning on mobile devices or enhanced formats for a richer, more visual experience.
  • Supplemental Teacher Guides
    • Take advantage of discussion questions, Scripture passages and prayers to facilitate meaningful class interactions or individual study. Note: While the lessons are designed to be accessed online, the teacher guides are available to download and print, if you prefer.

Thus far, we have created a Year 1 curriculum focused on the Catechism. This includes lessons on the Apostles’ Creed, 10 Commandments, Lord’s Supper and the Sacraments.

We are hard at work on Year 2, which will focus on the Bible and will be available in time for those who are already working on Year 1 to continue on without interruption.

How do you access the curriculum?

As noted above, this curriculum is completely free! All you need to do is create an account on our website.

You can do so by visiting the site and clicking the bright yellow “Login” button at the top right of the screen. Once you’ve created an account, you can begin accessing the curriculum via the “Confirmation” tab at the top of the screen.

We’re here to support you as you walk students through the curriculum. Please reach out with any questions, or click below to access this comprehensive FREE resource!
